Love this post. Really resonates with me and the path I've taken.
"If you’re reading all this and saying “But I don’t have time to work for free,” yes you do. If you want something bad enough, you have time to do it. It’s always interesting to hear people say their dream is to do X, but almost always, they aren’t doing it. “I’m passionate about singing.” So why aren’t you singing? If you don’t have enough time (or opportunities, or contacts, or money), you probably aren’t really passionate about it. Passionate people don’t make excuses."
Thats the part that not enough people understand. Earning difficult to come by jobs, financial freedom, high levels of success, etc. requires necessary sacrifice and risk. Everybody wants those things. If it was easy it wouldn't be desirable.
Really love this post and your other posts Bales! I recently made a job change from a job that I didn't feel saw my value + worked me to the bone to now a job that does see my value and compensates for it. Your value > time concept really clicked for me because if I'm working the same amount of time, the only part that I can have an impact on is value and how others see my value. Can't wait for your next post!
Good stuff, Bales. This is the way I got my start, too. Turned free into $3 into $5 into $15 and just kept leveraging. I now run a company. It took 4 years. You're an inspiration, man.
BTW - in no way, shape, or form, am I comparing myself to you. Simply just that I followed a similar path, organically and uniquely. It pales in comparison to your success - however, I'd argue we both find the immense intrinsic value out of what we do comparatively speaking.
The only success metric that matters to me is happiness, and there are many people who the public wouldn't deem successful who are among the most successful people because they're happy and free (and vice versa). Seems like you're both.
